Professional Development for Educators

What do we offer?Professional Development Workshops and More

Beyond Blocks

Caroline Pratt invented unit blocks in 1913, but why are these still so relevant and vital today? In this workshop, educators will engage in the possibilities for learning through block building. What are the pros and cons of including hollow blocks or other building materials in the block area? How can incorporating Play Schema and open-ended materials enrich collaboration, creativity and STEM across age groups? Prepare to enliven your block area!

Process Not Product: Art and Meaning Making

In this workshop, educators will have the opportunity to learn strategies to incorporate a wide array of materials and processes in art offerings. From Reggio-inspired, materials-based practices to constructivist approaches to incorporating Art History, diversity and inclusion, educators will participate in developing curriculum that supports creativity, expression, collaboration and meaning making.

The Magic of the Outdoor Classroom

Go beyond reliance on playground structures and pre-fabricated materials in this workshop on place-based outdoor learning. Educators will learn how to support inquiry in the outdoor classroom and how to use the changing environment as a material for learning through play. Redefining gross motor development through risk-taking will also be explored.
